Raftered

April 20, 2013

Spent the day on the sleeping cabin setting up the rafters. Dana helped me lift them into position and then we had to secure them in their final position. We have used a slightly different fastening technique than the usual. Beere milled fir cant strips to fill the angle gap between the top plate and the rafter and then we are using huge 15″ screws (known as timberlinx fasteners) to screw through the 7 1/2″ rafter and then into the ridge beam or top plate. It is all the drill can handle without exploding and the torque on my wrists is all my girly body can handle as well. Each set if rafters has 5 of these fasteners installed.

The sleeping cabin looks awesome – nicer than some cabins! Now, about that 15 inch screw… Are you compensating for something?
